Volens Zambia

For its 3 year programme (2008-2010) entitled ‘Appropriate Training for diversification and enhancement of community support to OVC in disadvantaged communities’ Volens works with 7 local partner organizations (PO) in rural districts along the Line of Rail-Southern Zambia. The PO’s who are selected and signed an agreement with Volens consists of:

Chikankata Health Services – AMTS (training Department), Mazabuka

Peoples Action Forum – Mazabuka

Simalelo Peer Education Project – Mazabuka

Family Health Trust – Monze

Youth Development Organisation – Choma

Kara Counseling Trust – Choma

Community Home Based Care Archdiocese – Lusaka

 

Objectives:

1. Human Capacity Building: Equipping the staff to better support and assist the OVC through resource mobilization and training in psychosocial support. Three main ways of enhancing the staff skills are offered:

- workshops and trainings

- attachments: exchanges of staff members between partners, in order to share expertise

- scholarships: if the expertise isn’t available amongst partners, external short term studying possibilities are explored

2. Organisational Capacity Building: offering support to have the organization function better, more transparently and achieve its goals

3. Interinstitutional Capacity Building: Reinforcing the positioning of the partners in society and networking towards other actors (policy making, donors, mobilizing other instances)

Objectives by end of 2010 :

General objective: Organised community volunteers render effective psychological support to orphans and vulnerable children

Specific objectives for Volens Zambia:

• Strong effective partner organisations (PO’s) provide appropriate training and coaching of community volunteers

• PO’s have staff that competently can train and coach community volunteers

• PO’s improve their general functioning

• PO’s jointly develop initiatives to enhance their operational power.
